Chapter 2 Flashcards
Define “geocentric orbit.”
A geocentric orbit or Earth orbit involves any object orbiting the Earth, such as the Moon or artificial satellites.

Define “helocentric orbit.”
A heliocentric orbit (also called circumsolar orbit) is an orbit around the barycenter of the Solar System, which is usually located within or very near the surface of the Sun.

Define “barycenter.”
The barycenter is the center of mass of two or more bodies that orbit one another and is the point about which the bodies orbit.

Define the “True anomaly.”
The True Anomaly is an angular parameter that defines the position of a body moving along a Keplerian orbit. It is the angle between the direction of periapsis and the current position of the body as seen from the main focus of the ellipse (the point around which the object orbits).
