Chapter 2 Flashcards
What are two major categories of Project influence?
Enterprise Environment Factors (EEF’s)
Organizational Process Assets (OPA’s)
The environment from which EEF’s originate?
Outside of the project
Outside of the Enterprise
The environment from which OPA’s originate?
Internal to the organization
Define EEF’s (Enterprise Environment Factors)
refers to conditions, not under control of the project team, that influence, constrain or direct the project.
the conditions can be internal or external to the organization.
Are EEF’s considered Input or Outputs to many projects management processes, specifically for most planning processes?
Inputs
List of EEF’s INTERNAL to the Organization
Org culture, Structure, and governance Geographic distribution of facilities and resources Infrastructure Information Tech Software Resource Availability Employee capability
List of EEF’s EXTERNAL to the Organization
Marketplace conditions Social and cultural influences and issues Legal restrictions Commercial databases Academic databases Government or industry standards Financial considerations Physical environment elements
Define Organizational Process Assets
The plans, processes, policies, procedures, and knowledge bases specific to and used by the performing organization.
What is included in OPA’s?
Any artifact, practice, or knowledge from any or all of the performing organizations involved in the project that can be used to execute or govern the project.
Can OPA’s by updated throughout the project? If so, Why?
Yes, OPA’s can be updated throughout the project as they are internal to the organization. Project team members may be able to update and add to the org process assets.
What do OPA’s include?
Lessons learned from previous projects and historical information
Completed schedules, risk data, and earned value data.
Are OPA’s Inputs or Outputs to the many project management processes?
Inputs
What two categories can OPA’s be grouped into?
Processes, policies and procedures
Organizational knowledge bases
Who usually establishes Policies, processes, and procedures?
PMO (Project Management Office
When are the updates in the Organizational knowledge bases usually completed?
these are updated throughout the project with project information
What are the org’s processes and procedures for conducting project work?
Initiating and Planning
Executing, Monitoring and Controlling
Closing
What are the organizational knowledge repositories for storing and retrieving information?
Configuration management knowledge Financial data Historical information and lessons learned Issue and Defect Management data Data Project files from previous projects
Organizational System Factors
Management Elements
Governance Frameworks
Organizational Structure types
Define a system
a collection of various components that together can product results not obtainable by the individual components alone
Define a component
an identifiable element within the project or organization that provides a particular function or group of related functions
List the principles regarding systems
Systems are ….
Dynamic.
can be optimized.
components can be optimized.
and their components CANNOT be optimized at the same time.
are nonlinear in responsiveness (a change in the input does not produce a predictable change in the output)
Who usually has the responsibility of systems?
the organization’s management
Governance refers to …..?
organizational or structural arrangements at all levels of an organization designed to determine and influence the behavior of the organization’s members.
What is Governance
the framework within which authority is exercised in organizations.
What does Governance framework include?
Rules, policies, procedures, norms, relationships, systems and processes
What does the Governance framework influence?
How objectives of the org are set and achieved
How risk is monitored and assessed
How performance is optimized
