Chapter 2 Flashcards
I can make up to four bonds , stable tetrahedral shapes. I also have a tendency to chain. What am I?
Carbon
I am carbon based bond. I’m less flexible but I’m more stable. It takes a lot of heat and temperature to disrupt my structure.
Carbon Double Bond
I am a type of bond. I form when you see lots of carbons and hydrogens
nonpolar bond
My monomers are polar. My monomers are called amino acids.
Proteins
My monomers are polar. they contain a lot of oxygen and carbon bonds. my monomers are called sugars.
Carbohydrates
My monomers are called nucleotides.
nucleic acids
I am the bonds that make up a sugar phosphate backbone.
phosphodiester bonds
I am a type of fat. solid at room temperature and stable. high amounts of me can clog your blood vessels. I contain single bonds (C-O).
saturated fats
I am a type of fat. I contain double bonds. I’m very unstable. I’m often in my liquid state. The more you have of me the easier it is to melt me.
Unsaturated fats
I am the force found in saturated fats. I’m only found in hydrophobic molecules.
Van der waals forces
I am antipathic. I am also the basis for all cellular membranes. I fall under the category of the monomer- fatty acids
Phospholipids
I am very important in metabolism. I am a hydrocarbon with rings rather than chains. I’m used to stabilize cell membranes an allow for fluidity.
Steroids
I am a monomer. I am polar and I am the optimal energy molecule.
Sugar
I am one example of a carbohydrate. I am found in the cell wall of living organisms. I am an organic compound. humans consume me as a source of fiber.
Cellulose
I am a non-polar molecule. I am found in grain products such as pasta, rice, and bread. I am an example of a carbohydrate.
