CHAPTER 19 WEATHER Flashcards
What is the definition of meteorology?
Meteorology is the scientific study of the atmosphere.
What is the definition of weather?
Wether is the of the earth’s atmosphere at any given time and place.
What is the definition of the temperature?
Temperature is an indication of the amount of thermal energy in the air.
What measures temperature?
Thermographs and thermometers.
What is the different temperatures?
Fahrenheit and Celsius.
What is the boiling and freezing points and normal body temperature?
Boiling is 212 degrees and freezing is 32 degrees and normal body temperature is 96 degrees.
Boiling and freezing points of Celsius?
Boiling is 100 degrees and freezing is 0 degrees.
What is the definition of atmospheric pressure?
Atmospheric pressure is the weight of the gases of the atmosphere bearing on the earth’s surface.
What is air pressure measured in?
Air pressure is measured in metric units of force per area.
What do we use to measure atmospheric pressure?
Atmospheric pressure is measured is measured with a barometer.
What are air masses?
Air masses are huge volumes of warm and cold air that move across the earth’s surface.
What is the definition of wind?
Wind is moving air.
What is the definition of wind direction?
Wind direction is the direction from which the wind is coming.
What do we use to find out where the wind is coming from?
Wind vanes tell where the wind is coming from.
What do we use to destroy air pollution?
Wind turbines destroy air pollution.
