Chapter 19 Equilibrium Flashcards
How do you calculate total pressure of a gas mixture?
Total pressure is the sum of all the partial pressures of the individual gases
What is a mole fraction?
The proportion of a gas mixture that is a particular gas
How do you calcualte mole fractions?
Mole fraction of a gas in a mixture = Number of moles of gas / Total number of moles of gas in the mixture
What effect does concentration and pressure change have on the equilibrium constant?
Concentration and pressure changes don’t affect the equilibrium position
What is included in the expression for the equilibrium constant if the mixture is homogeneous?
All the reactants and products are put into the expression for the equilibrium constant
What is included in the expression for the equilibrium constant if the mixture is heterogeneous?
Only gases and aqueous sustances go into the expression for the equilibrium constant
