Why did the North win at Gettysburg, and what is the significance of this battle?
The North won because the got there rest and was able to get the high ground and tree cover for their canons and snipers. This gave them more protection during the battle
The significance of this battle is afterwards it was the turning point and the Union won most of the battles fought

The E.P. freed all slaves in rebellious territories in 1863
This did not change the lives of slaves immediately because, those who were in the south didn’t recognize the Union as their government

What did General Lee decide to do since he won so many battles?
He decided to invade the North

- Wooden ships with iron nailed to the top layers
- used to fight naval battles
Why was New Orleans so important?
- The largest city in the south
- Union forces led by General Grant captured New Orleans, which meant they should now concentrate on the eastern half of the south

Sherman’s March to the Sea was him capturing Atlanta, Savannah, and destroyed towns all the way up the East Coast. He destroyed basically everything in sight going forward, especially things that have advantages and could help them
Why did Lincoln not outlaw slavery at the start of the Civil War?
He feared that border states like Missouri would join the Confederacy
