Chapter 17: Refractive Surgery Flashcards
What are the limits of correction of laser eye surgery
+4 to -10D
How can we correct astigmatism using a corneal incision
By making an incision in the steepest meridian. This flattens it out
How can a compression suture be used to correct astigmatism in corneal transplant
Place tight suture in the flattest meridian causing it to become more curved to match the other meridian.
This can be combined with relaxin incision at 90 degrees away from the suture to reduce large degrees of astigmatism.
What is an intrastromal corneal ring used for?
Correction of -4D of myopia. It flattens out the cornea.
Why are temporal corneal incisions the most astigmatically neutral?
Temporal limbus is further away from the visual axis
How does a sclera buckle effect vision
Can cause astigmatism or change axial length.
Buckle is used on VR surgery for detachment
