Chapter 17 - Inherited change Flashcards
What is monohybrid inheritance?
Where the genes are dominant or recessive and expressed using capital letters
What is the expected ratio of a monohybrid inheritance F1 cross?
3 : 1
How can you test if something is homozygous or heterozygous?
Test Cross
What is codominance inheritance?
Where the gene is present as well as the allele
What is incomplete dominance?
Where both alleles are expressed
What are the chromosomes of a biological female?
XX
What are the chromosomes of a biological male?
XY
How are multiple alleles typically shown?
Through blood groups
What are the different types of blood groups?
IAIA - B
IAIB- AB
IAIO - A
IBIB - B
IBIO - B
IOIO - O
what is the most recessive blood type?
IOIO
What is dihybrid inheritance?
Lookin at 2 genes that have alleles that follow normal mendelian rules
What is autosomal linkage?
Where there are two genes on the same chromosome and can only produce 2 types of gametes as they are stuck on the same chromosomes unless there is cross linkage
What is epistasis?
Epistasis occurs between 2 genes coding for different characteristics interact and alter the expression of another
What is the difference between dihybrid and epistasis?
Dihybrid is 2 separate genes being inherited with each gene having its own phenotype, but epistasis is how the two genes interact to give different phenotypes
