chapter 1.7 Biological molecules Flashcards
1
Q
enzymes
A
tertiary structure proteins that catalyse reactions
their active site attaches to the substarte to catalyse a reaction
2
Q
active site
A
- specific and unique in shape due to the specific folding and bonding in the tertiary strcuture of the protein
- due to the AS being so specific, the enzymes can only attach to the substrates that are complimentary in shape
- AS forms a small depression within the large enzyme molecule
3
Q
substrate
A
fits neatly into depression and forms an enzyme-substrate complex
its held within the AS by bonds that temporairly form betwee specific aa and the groups on the enzyme molecule
4
Q
lock and key
A
enzyme (lock) and sub (key) that fits into AS exactly due to their complimentarity in shape
5
Q
induced fit
A
6
Q
catalyst
A
7
Q
competitive inhibitor
A
