What is leadership?
The process of influencing an organisation (or group whitin an organisation) in its efforts towards achieving an aim or goal
What are the different strategic leadership roles?
Top managers
Middle managers
Entreprenurial leaders
What are the key roles for top managers
Envisioning future strategy - vision of the future –> communicated internaly and externaly
ALigning the organisation to deliver that strategy –> ensuring motivation and commitment
Embodying change - Highly significant in the change process
What leadership roles does middle managers include?
Champions of strategic issues - Well placed to see the signals for the need of change or blockage –> must also gain the attention of top management to explain strategic issues that they might not see “Sell strategic issues to top management”
Sense makers of strategy –> make sense of the strategic direction –> “bridge between management and members of the organisation lower down
Adapters to unfolding events - adapt the strategy to specific situations –> (Adjust)
What are the three roles that are important for entreprenurial leaders?
Entrepreneurs are many different roles in new organisations
Opportunity spotters - outward and forward looking focus –> seeking opportunities
Resource marshallers - Marshal from scratch resources to persue their opportunities
Risk takers - More risk than leaders of large organisations
What is transformational leadership?
Soft levers for change such as building a vision for their organisation –> Charismatic (Soft implementation)
What is transactional leaders?
HAr levers of change such as designing systems and controls
What is a forcefield analysis?
Analysing the forces at work in an organisation acting either to block or to facilitate change
What is the change Kaleido scope?
Highlights how contextual features can take various forms supporting or resisting change
What are the two types of strategic change?
Incremental change
Transformational change
