What Religion was Henry the Great?

A

Henry the Great was the king of France who was able to bring France out of a civil war between Protestants and Catholics. He issued the Edict of Nantes allowing Protestants the right to worship in 150 towns throughout France. He was Catholic.

A

Mercantilism. Colbert increased the number of textiles and wanted craftsmen to move to France and make goods there. He also stated that he wanted to colonize Canada and get more goods from there that he could export for money. He even tried to compete with the Dutch Indies Company.

What is Mercantilism?

A

Mercantilism is when the state produces more goods and exports more goods then it imports. It lowers domestic costs and raised tariffs on foreign goods, this meant that people should buy French things more then other foreign goods because French goods were cheaper.

Why did Spain suffer and become weak in the 17th century?

A

Because they weren’t getting as many goods from the colonies and couldn’t compete with the English and Dutch traders. The workers and slaves died and the mines ran out of supplies. Royal expenditures constantly exceeded income. The crown devalued the coin and declared bankruptcy multiple times.
