Chapter 15: Toxicogenomics Flashcards
What does the increase VS decrease in the concentration of transcription mean?
decrease [transcription]= not a lot of protein being made
increase [transcription]= a lot of protein being made
How does DEET exposure affect dog ticks?
Found that exposure to DEET causes dog ticks to rapidly decrease expression of Phase I detoxification genes!
Also found decreased P450 enzyme activity!
PCBs and Dioxins bind to what receptor? What happens?
PCBs and Dioxins bind to the aryl hydrocarbon receptor
This is a transcription factor protein. Once it gets activated, moves into the nucleus and switches on the transcription of 60 genes
What are the two components of lampricide? and do they specify?
TFM (lamprey specific) and Niclosamide (no specificity)
How does TFM work?
It interferes with oxidative phosphorylation. inhibits ATP synthesis, leads to ROS production and necrosis
Why can the [lactate] be used as a biomarker to indicate if the organism is okay or not?
↑[lactate]= not enough O2. fermentation is happening
↓[lactate]= enough O2
