Chapter 15 networking Flashcards
Encryption standard used by WPA2
AES advanced encryption standard
TCP IPv6, old tunneling protocol. Replaced by Teredo/ISATAP protocols. IPv6 sends packets in tunnels over IPv4 network
6TO4
IPv6 address used by routers that identifies multiple destinations. Packets are delivered to closest destination.
Anycast address
IPv4 address 169.254.x.y used when a computer cannot get an address from DHCP.
APIPA automatic private IP address
Aka UDP/best-effort protocol, no connection
Connectionless protocol
Connection verifying data received
Connection based protocol
A device for network traffic to leave one network to go to another one.
Gateway
Windows queries DNS server for a computer’s IP address with a fully qualified complete domain name.
DNS client
IPv6 address that can be routed on the internet
Global address
Name to identify computer on network, to name a computer, part of a FQDN.
Host name
File in \drivers\etc folder that lists all computer names and IP addresses on local network
Hosts file
User manages email on email server without downloading it.
IMAP4
Client downloads email from email server.
POP3
Node’s attachment to a link in IPv6, node gets IP address.
Interface
IPv6, last 64 bits (4 blocks) of IP address
Interface ID
Private network using TCP/IP protocols
Intranet
Client application needs to query a database
LDAP
IPv6, LAN/WAN bounded by routers
Link / local link
IP address for communicating amongst nodes in a link. IP address is allowed on internet.
Link local (unicast) address
Your own IP address to test TCP/IP configurations
Loopback address
IPv6 one hosts broadcasts to multiple hosts
Multicasting
IPv6 address, packets are delivered to all nodes on network
Multicast address
Substitutes the public IP address of the router for the private IP address of the computer that one needs to communicate with
NAT
TCP/IPv6, two nodes on the same link network
Neighbors
Address assigned to an application so it can be accessed by TCP/IP
Port number
Computer on internet reaches computer on a private network, protected by a NAT firewall through a special port number.
Port forwarding (tunneling)
FirewallA opens a port because a computer behind FirewallA initiates communication on another port.
Port triggering
IPv4 address that is private and isolated from the internet.
Private IP address
Assign higher bandwidth to assign to apps that need it. VoIP needs a lot
QoS
Login to a remote computer and control it over a network using encryption.
SSH
Windows shares files and printers over a network.
SMB server message block
TCP/IPv6, last block (16 bits) of 64bit prefix of IP address. Uses some or all of the 16 bits
Subnet ID
TCP/IPv4 , 32 bits series of ones, then zeros to indicate network and host portions of an IP address. Tells Windows if a remote computer is on a similar or different network.
Subnet mask
Protocol to control a computer remotely
Telnet
TCP/IPv6 tunneling protocol. Addresses begin with same 32bit prefix, 2001::/32
Teredo
Encryption method for WPA
TKIP
TCP/IPv6, address to identify a specific address within a large organization, functioning on multiple links in the same organization, hybrid unicast address involving Internet and link addresses.
Unique local unicast address
Security technique, uses encrypted data packets between a computer on the internet and a private network.
VPN
Cellular network for mobile devices
WWAN
