How do antibiotics work?

A

they target bacterial infections by disrupting the formation of a cell wall and so bacteria can’t reproduce, this is also why they don’t affect human cells and viruses.

What happens when bacteria is resistant to antibiotics?

A

you get superbugs that increase rapidly

eg. MRSA (methicillin- resistant staphylococcus aureus)

What are some affects of excessive alcohol and heroin abuse?

A
  • longer reaction time
  • less self-control
  • addiction with powerful withdrawal symptoms
  • crime
  • powerful depressants
  • long-term use causes liver damage
  • can cause infection (heroin needles)

  • chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (emphysema causes weakened alveoli walls and chronic bronchitis which causes excess mucus to be produced.)
