A pressure vessel is a closed vessel in which the source of pressure is external to itself. Any pressure vessel not identified as a boiler.
How often are high pressure boiler inspected?
All boilers operating over 15 psi unless otherwise excepted shall be inspected internally and externally every year.
What information is on a certificate of inspection?
Certificate of inspection: Name of owner/user, location, size and number of Boiler, Date of inspection, signature of inspector, MAWP. Posted in boiler room/engine room where it can be easily read.
Which air tanks require inspection?
Compressed air tanks, unless otherwise excepted, over 50 psi shall be inspected every two years.
Which refrigeration equipment (chillers) require inspection?
Refrigeration equipment, unless otherwise excepted, over 20 tons shall be inspected every year.
Which boilers require periodic attendance?
Boilers from 9BHP to 250BHP require periodic attendance.
Which boilers require non-continuous attendance?
Boilers from 251BHP to 500BHP require non-continuous attendance.
Which boilers require continuous attendance?
Boilers over 501 BHP require continuous attendance.
What can you do with a second fireman’s license?
To operate any boiler or boilers under the engineer or fireman in direct charge thereof.

Dual pressure controls or any similar device are prohibited from use on all steam boilers operating above 15 psi. (522 CMR 2.03 (2))
What information is on the operators log book?
Give boiler bottom blow downs, operate surface blow valves, blowdown water column, test low water cutoff, operate safety valves manually on start-up, check lubrication on aux. equipment, check ignition operates properly and keep boiler room clean.
