To use the executive power of a governor or president to forgive a person charged with a crime or convicted of a crime, thus preventing any prosecution and removing any remaining penalties or punishments.
War Powers Act
it limits the president’s ability to use military force
Legislative vetoes
To reject the actions of the president or executive agency by a vote of one or both houses of Congress without the consent of the president; declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in 1983
bureaucracy
a systematic way of organizing a complec and large administration structure
Hatch Act of 1939
prohibits government employees from engaging in political activities while on duty or running for office or seeking polititcal funding while off duty
cabinet
fifteen executive departments created to advise the president and operate a specific policy area of government activity
iron triangles
Alliances that develop between bureacractic agencies, interest groups, and congressional committees or subcommittees
issue networks
individuals in Washington- located within interest groups, congressional staff, think tanks, universitites, and the media.
pocket veto
when the president refuses to sign a bill at the end of a legislative session and the bill dies
executive privilege
claim by presidents that they have the discretion to decide that the national interest will be better served if certain info is withheld from the public

written comment issued by a president at the time legislation is signed
