Chapter 14 Flashcards
1
Q
What is syngamy?
A
The fusion of 2 cells that form a zygote –> followed by the process of meiosis
2
Q
Describe “species” in a population-genetic perspective
A
In pop. gen., species are seen as a SET of traits and alleles that are held together by: assortative mating and selection
*selected alleles are correlated meaning selection does not act in isolation when it comes to different loci
3
Q
How does genetic exchange occur in non-eukaryotic species?
A
Non-eukaryotic species are asexual – many mechanisms have been formed where these asexual species can still exchange some genetic material by acquiring + incorporating it into their genomes.
