Trail of Tears
In the fall and winter of 1838-1839, the U.S. army forcibly removed about 15,000 Cherokees, some of them in manacles, from their ancestral homelands of the southeastern U.S. and marched through Indian territory. Freezing weather and inadequate food supplies led to unspeakable suffering. The escorting troops refused to slow the march so that the ill could recover, and some 4,000 Cherokees died on the 116 day journey.
Tariff of Abominations
The tariff kept southerners from importing and exporting their goods, and believed that the tariffs discriminated against them.
Indian Removal Act
The wanting to remove Indians.
Bank War
War between Jackson and the U.S. banks.
Whig Party
A party of people who were against Jackson for all different reasons.
Two Party System
A system with 2 parties ex: democratic Republican Party.
Spoils System
Public offices given as a reward for political support.
