Chapter 13 - Understanding Frame Relay Concepts Flashcards

1
Q

What solutions were created to compensate for the lack of a protocol type field in the standard frame relay header?

A
  1. Cisco and other companies created an additional header. A 2-byte protocol type field which comes between the LAPF and layer 3 packet.
  2. RFC 1490 mutiprotocol interconnect over frame relay. This RFC defines a similar header also placed between the LAPF header and layer 3 packet.

Q

True or False. The local DLCIs on a single access link don’t have to be unique.

A

False. The DLCIs must be unique among all PVCs that use one frame relay access link.

Q

What are 3 different options for assigning subnets and IP addresses on frame relay interfaces?

A
  1. One subnet containing all frame relay DTEs
  2. One subnet per VC
  3. A hybrid of the first two options
