Chapter 13 - Single-Case Experimental Research Flashcards
How is a Single-Case Experimental Research similar to a single case study and and experimental study?
involves the manipulation of one variable and controlling of other variables but focuses on a single person
How do Single-Case Experimental Research control the extraneous variables?
- Baseline observations (to show what behavior was like before treatment)
- Repeated observation(to ensure that outside factors are not influencing behavior
- Replication of treatment effects (to show that the treatment always causes the change in behavior)
Why is a graph itself is not enough to show that the treatment causes changes in behaviour?
- No control over extraneous variables
How are single-case designs similar to other experimental designs?
They are capable of determining cause-and-effect relationships.
Why do single-case designs use a series of observations of the same individual under the same conditions?
To ensure that the observed behavior is not being influenced by outside variables
A series of observations of the same individual under the same conditions is known as a…
