Three policies towards young people.

A

Schools- Nazis had control over curriculum and issued textbooks that were appropriate for Nazi ideology. Religious studies replaced was more German history.
Youth groups- Post 1933 only Nazi youth groups were only legal, 1936 catholic groups were banned. education was based political indoctrination, PE and military drills.
League of German Girls (BDM)- prepared girls for their future role as housewives and mothers, membership compulsory in 1936.

Degree of success for polices of young people.

A

Considerable success- regime managed to have full control over the future generation by 1939, compulsory membership ship of HY and BDM.
Weakness- attendance at HY meeting slip after 1936 and young people still had the desire to be independent, re-emergence of youth cliques.

Three policies towards Women.

A

Marriage loans- paid if they left paying employment to marry an aryan man.
Medal scheme- women who had larger families given medal as they were donating to the fuhrer.
Healthy lifestyle- give up toxic substances such as alcohol and smoking, eat healthy, exercise.

Degree of success for policies of women.

A

Raising birth rate success-increase of birth as it encouraged couples to have more children, money and awards were given.
Employment issues- post 1936 labour shortages called for more women to join the work force instead, foreshadowing of WW2.

Two policies towards workers.

A

DAF (Robert Ley)- replaced trade unions (May 1933) , only legal organisation representing workers. Built empire with banks, housing, construction, Volkswagen car plant.
KDF- strength through Joy, offered holidays and leisure activities for workers, very popular.

A

Strength through Joy- big success and membership increased.
Strikes continued- lack of independent trade unions so strikes still happened, pressure to hold down wages and performance from workers.

Three policies towards churches.

A

The Reich Church- 1933 coordinated German Evangelical Church into Reich church, Ludwig Muller. Embraced Nazi and nationalist views. CC was made as a breakaway by dissent pastors, wanted traditional worship.
Roman Churches- harder target as they had strong dedication to the pope. Concordat 1933 each side wouldn’t interfere in other’s ideas. Wasn’t held up by Nazis, Catholic youth banned 1936.

A

Inconsistent- Nazis failed to establish a single, united protestant church and religion was still a main enemy of Nazi power.
Some success- Church concession campaign 5% renounced their membership to churches.

Nazi racial ideology

A

Considered them biological outsiders who threaten the racial purity of the Aryan race. Must get rid of the weakest links in society (survival of the fittest, social Darwinism).
