Chapter 13 Flashcards
Emerging technologies
the technologies that are still developing
NFC
Near field Communication is a wireless technology similar to Bluetooth
Protocol
A set of rules that ensure data is transferred between devices correctly
Passive NFC chips
NFC chips can be built into information points in building and used to provide visitors with necessary information
Electronic wallet
NFC chips that are built into many credit cards, it enables users to make contactless payments
UHD
Ultra high definition television system
Advantages
- Quality of image is clear
- Can produce higher details of the image
- Can improve viewing experience
Disadvantages
- Technology UHD is very expensive
- Requires large amount of data to be transmitted
- An internet connection needs to be at least 25mbps
AI
AI is one of the most developing areas of technology, it is the creation of computers that are designed to have human like capabilities
Advantages
- Increased level of precision and accuracy
- They can be used 24/7
- Don’t have emotions so they always make logical decisions
- Can do dangerous tasks that are a risk for humans
Disadvantages
- Require a high level of skill to program so they are expensive
- The storage requirements for then program can be very expensive to set up
- People have ethical issues with computers replacing intelligence
Augmented reality
AR is where technology overlays computers-generated images onto a user’s view to the real world.
Advantages
- Can make learning experience more entertaining
- Can allow the user to stimulate every day experience in an efficient way
- Can be used to allow a user to navigate a new place
Disadvantages
- Some people might be concerned about privacy because AR is based on collecting data
- Some people believe that it could modify a person’s perception to reality
- The technology required for a smooth AR is expensive to manufacture
VR
VR allows the user to experience a computer-generated reality that doesn’t immediately exist in real life
