Chapter 13 Flashcards
Albumin
Protien in blood.
Antibody (Ab)
Specific protien produced by lymphocytes in response to bacteria, viruses, or other antigens.
Basophil
Wbc containing granules that stain blue.
Release histamine and heparin.
Bilirubin
Oragne-yellow pigment in bile. Formed by breakdown of hemoglobin when rbc destroyed.
Colony stimulating factor (CSF)
Protien that stimulates growth of wbc
Differentiation
Change in structure and function of a cell as it matures.
Electrophoresis
Method of seperating serum proteins by electrical charge
Esinophil
Wbc containing granules that stain red
*Associated with allegric reactions
Erythroblast
Immature rbc
Erythrocyte
Rbc
Erythropoietin (EPO)
Hormone secreted by the kidneys; stimulates rbc formation
Fibrin
Protien that forms the basis of a blood clot
Fibrinogen
Plasma protien that is converted to fibrin in the clotting process
Globulin
Plasma protien; alpha, beta, gamma, globulins are examples
Granulocyte
Wbc w/ numerous dark staining granules: eosinphil, neutrophil, basophil
Hematopoietic stem cell
Cell in the bone marrow that gives rise to all types of blood cells
Heparin
Anticoagulant found in blood and tissue cells
Immunoglobin
Protien (a globulin) with antibody activity; eg IGg, IgM…
Leukocyte
Wbc
Lymphocyte
Mononuclear leukocyte that produces antibiodies
Macrophage
Monocyte that migrates from the blood to tissue spaces.
Magkaryocyte
Large platelet precursor cell found in the bone marrow
Monocyte
Leukocyte w/ one large nucleus
Mononuclear
Pretaining to a cell (leukocyte) with a single round nucleus.
Myeloblast
Immature bone marrow that gives rise to granulocytes
Neutrophil
Granulocytic leukocyte formed in bone marrow
