Who is the White House’s chief of staff?
A top adviser to the president, manages the White House staff.
Contrast an executive order, an executive agreement, and a treaty.
An order is a rule or regulation with the force of a law and is done within the country.
An agreement also has the force of a law but is signed with another country. Does not need Senate approval.
A treaty is a formal international agreement between two or more countries. Requires Senate approval.
What makes up the Executive Office of the President (EOP)?
Organizations that advise the president on a wide range of issues. Includes, among others, the Office of Management and Budget, the National Security Council, and the Council of Economic Advisers.
Explain the doctrine of habeas corpus.
A person who is arrested must have a timely hearing before a judge.
What is the institutional presidency?
The permanent bureaucracy associated with the presidency, designed to help the incumbent of the office carry out their responsibilities.
Who is the national security adviser?
A top foreign policy and defense adviser to the president who heads the National Security Council.
What is a presidential job approval rating?
The percentage of Americans who believe the president is doing a good job.
What is the president’s State of the Union report?
An annual report to the nation and Congress on the state of the nation and legislative proposals for addressing national problems.
What does the controversial unitary executive doctrine propose?
The executive branch is under the direct control of the president, who has all authority necessary to control the actions of federal bureaucracy personnel units without interference from the other federal branches.
