Chapter 12: More than once independent variable Flashcards
Factorial Design
A study in which there are two or more independent variables or factors.
Cross-factorial design
Research cross the two independent variables and study each possible combination of the independent variables.
- 2 x2 factorial design means that two levels of one independent variable are cross with two levels of another independent variable
Participant Variable
A variable such as age, gender, or ethnicity those levels are a selection (measured), not manipulated
Main effect = overall effect
In a factorial design, the overall effect of one independent variable on the dependent variable, averaging over the levels o the other independent variable.
Think of the main effect as an overall effect, the overall effect of one independent variable at a time,
Marginal means
In a factorial design, the arithmetic means for each level of an independent variable, averaging over the levels of another independent variable.
