What do internal factors refer to?
An individual’s personality, emotions, intelligence, self esteem, or physical health.
What do external factors refer to?
Influences that originate from the persons environment such as for example family, school, friends, social, cultural, and religious status.
What is ‘locus of control’?
Refers to internal and external factors, and reflects whether a person perceives that they have control over their behaviour or they are controlled by external factors.
Eg. A student who has an internal locus and performs poorly on a sac, will accept that they need to work harder for the next sac.
A student who has an external locus and performs poorly will blame the teacher, or simply the fact that it was a hard sac.
What is the internal locus of control?
You make things happen.
What is your external locus of control?
Things happen to you.
What is eustress?
Stress that comes from good news, such as winning a trip overseas, is called positive stress or eustress, and refers to a positive psychological response to a perceived stressor.
What is distress?
Negative stress, refers to a negative psychological response to a perceived stressor. Eg. Finding that someone has dented the driver door of your new car.
