Chapter 12 - Equilibrium Flashcards
What is physical and chemical equilibrium?
- physical- still same compound.
* chemical- compound changes
How is chemical equilibrium reached?
- rates of forward/reverse are equal
* concentrations remain constant
How to find chemical equilibrium?
Kc = [products]/[reactants]
How to tell if there are more products or reactants by using k value?
If bigger than 1, more product, if smaller than 1, more reactant
How to find Kp when given equilibrium constant, temp, and a chem equation?
- Kp = Kc(RT)^Δn
- R = 0.08206
- Δn = net moles
What shld be the only thing in Kc expressions? Kp?
- Kc - gases or aqueous, NOT liquid or solid
* Kp - only gases
How to make ICE table?
Subtract x on reactants add those x’s to products. Set equal to Kc
What would changes in concentration do to equilibrium?
- inc prod - shift left
- dec prod - shift right
- inc reac - shift right
- dec reac - shift left
- this principle offsets to equal out
What does inc/dec of temp do to K. In Endothermic reactions?
- inc temp - K inc
- dec temp -K dec
- vice versa for exothermic
Does catalysts change equilibrium?
Nope
How does change in volume affect equilibrium?
- inc vol - Eq to most moles
- dec vol - Eq to few moles
- vice versa for pressure
