Is the solids that collect at the bottom of the tank.
SLUDGE
Composed of materials that float on water such as grease, oil and fats.
SCUM
not less than 2/3 of the total capacity of the tank, nor less than 2m³ liquid capacity.
INLET COMPARTMENT
Minimum of 1m³ and a maximum of 1/3 of the total capacity of such tank.
SECONDARY COMPARTMENT
Older septic tanks - especially those made from concrete - tend to contain wall baffles.
