Why may adult day care programs be helpful?
respite for care giver. in-between step before nursing home. allows older individual to receive higher care
How would supportive care or assisted living benefit an older adult and their family?
Older does not need to leave home, good fit for those who are cognitively intact and active. however family may be biased
Competence-Press Model
balance of adaptation between the press (or need) to preform tasks and the individuals competence. (Ex. Activity level vs physical ablilty)
What are some ways that long term care could be improved?
connecting the environment to the resident and their abilities. a more community or neighborhood approach, higher staff levels to meet the daily needs of the residents.
What are some Pros and Cons of LTC facilities (like the one in the Netherlands)?
Pros: smaller groups, home based setting, sense of independence
Cons: hard to form a locked word, conflict between residents, cost, number of staff
