Secondary Economic Activities
Workers in factories use raw materials to manufacture goods that people can buy. E.g. The manufacture of cars and computers
Primary activities
Raw materials produced from the earth: farming, fishing, forestry and mining
Tertiary activities
People provide services that other people require. E.g. Teaching and hairdressing
Sustainable exploitation
People use a resource for their needs without putting the needs of future generations at risk
Renewable resources
They do not run out. They are non finite. E.g. Fish, timber, water
Non renewable resources
Finite resources. Resources that will run out. E.g. Oil, Minerals, Coal, Gas.
Oil reserves
The known supply of oil undergrounds
Meitheal
A group of neighbours and friends who worked together at a common task in rural Ireland
Self-sufficient
Reliant on a country’s own resource
Quota
A limit on the amount of fish that can be caught annually
Traceability
Beef and sheep can be traced back to the farms where the animals were raised.
Irrigation
Artificial watering of the land
