Chapter 11 (pg 120 - 139) Flashcards
How can we improve accessibility?
To improve accessibility, natural vegetation will have to be cleared.
What is carbon footprint?
Carbon footprint is the measure of greenhouse gases emitted to support human activities.
What are the greenhouse gases considered in the carbon footprint?
Carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and sulfur hexafluoride.
How does a transport system increase the carbon footprint of a country?
All transport systems burn some form of fossil fuel in order to generate energy. This burning of fossil fuel will produce carbon which combines with oxygen that produces carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. As cities grow, the number of transport modes also increases contributing to the greenhouse gases.
What is mobility?
Mobility is the ability of people and freight to move from place to place which allows us to access basic goods and services. It also facilitates interactions that are necessary for our emotional well-being.
What are PWDs?
PWDs are those with long-term intellectual, physical or sensory impairments.
What are the considerations that determine a Silver Zone?
High proportion of senior residents, high accident rates involving senior pedestrians and close proximity to amenities frequented by seniors.
