Q

What were the economic impacts of the Treaty of Versailles on Germany?

A

As the Weimar government was printing money in order to pay off reparations, the German currency crippled and became worthless.

As a result, this caused hyperinflation and the prices of everything in the market has gone up. For example, a loaf of bread in 1923 would cost more than a house in 1921. Since the currency had became worthless, personal savings of citizens were wiped out overnight and they were disappointed. Hence, they all blamed the government for their hardship which caused political instability

Q

What is one reason why the Treaty of Versailles was unfair for Germany?

A

The Germans expected a fair treaty where they would be treated with respect as equals.

However, after the terms of the treaty were announced they called the treaty a diktat which meant that the treaty of versailles was a dictated peace forced upon the Germans.
