Romans had enough farmable land to grow enough food to support its large population

Rome was far enough up the Tiber River to escape raids by sea-going pirates. Rome’s location across seven steep hills made it easy to defend against enemy attacks.

ROMULUS AND REMUS
Romulus and Remus were brothers who were found by a river by a she-wolf, and adopted by a farmer. They began to build Rome, but fought for fought and Romulus killed Remus in the conflict and Romulus became the first leader of Rome.

AENEAS
After the Battle of Troy, Aeneas and his soldiers escaped Troy to find Rome and so the Trojans settled in Italy, Aeneas married a local king’s daughter and became king of Rome.

5000 B.C. Neolithic people created farming villages in Southern Italy but moved when food ran out

The Romans adopted the Greek alphabet, buildings, sculptures, and literature, along with grape and olive farming.
WHO WERE THE ETRUSCANS?
The Etruscans were a group of people who settled north of Rome. They eventually moved south and took control of Rome and the surrounding area
IN WHAT WAYS DID THE ETRUSCANS INFLUENCE THE ROMANS?
They taught the Romans how to build with bricks, use tile for their roofs, create layout of their cities, drain the water from marshes between the Roman hills, aspects of their religion, how to form their army and what fashion to wear
