chapter 11 antianginal Flashcards
Angina:
decreased oxygen supply to the heart muscle(heart attack)
Atherosclerosis:
deposition of fatty plaques and calcium on the inner wall of arteries
Intermittent claudication:
a group of symptoms characterized by pain in the calf muscle in one or both limbs caused by walking and relived by rest
Lumen:
the inside diameter of a vessel
Prophylaxis
prevention
Transdermal system:
the drug is impregnated in a pad and absorbed through the skin
Vasodilatation:
an increase in diameter size of a vessel, primarily in arterioles and small arteries. Causes blood pressure to decrease
Vasoconstriction:
is a decrease in the vessel lumen, causes an increase in the blood pressure.
Myocardial infarction (heart attach):
is permanent damage (death) of the heart muscle due to ischemia
Ischemia:
an inadequate blood supply to an organ or part of the body, especially the heart muscles.
Stenosis: means
narrowing or constriction
Atherosclerosis
Disease characterized by deposits of fatty plaques on the inner wall of arteries and calcification
Antianginal drugs and vasodilating drugs increase
the size of the blood vessels
The heart muscle (Myocardium receives blood from the
1stbranch of the ascending aorta (right and left coronary arteries)
