Chapter 1.01 Flashcards
Learn this chapter well
What are always in “Aq” state?
Acid
What is Stoichemistry
Reactions between different amounts of molecules during reactions
What are atoms?
Smallest particle of an element to show properties of the element.
What are native form atoms?
Found by itself in nature
Give two atoms found in native form.
Nitrogen and Gold.
What are chemical compounds?
Multiple elements held in fixed proportion to each other. The bonds between the elements change it’s property.
What is “Na” in it’s native form?
Dangerous metal that can react with water
What is “Cl2” in it’s native form?
Toxic gas
What is the formula symbol for Glucose
C6H12O6
What is the formula symbol for ammonium sulphade
(NH4)2SO4
What are stoichmetric coefficient
The coefficient in-front of an element.
What is the formula for atom economy
Mass of desired product/Total mass of product x 100
What are mixtures
Mixtures are where chemicals are interspersed in each other but still maintain different characteristic property and at the same time they hold different compositions.
Define Homogenous
Compositions are uniformly dispersed.
Define Heterogeneous
Compositions are unevenly dispersed.
What is paper chromotrography?
It uses “the property of absorption of solid phase” to separate stuff such as food colouring.
What are inter-molecule particles?
Particles between molecule
What is the impact of inter-molecular particles?
They determine the state of matter and can change due to temperature and weather.
What is the formula of kinetic energy?
KE = 1/2 mv^2
What kind of relation is there between mass and velocity for gasses and liquids in regards to kinetic energy.
Inverse linear relation == More mass results in less velocity in diffusion.

Deposition.
What is the difference between boiling and evaporation.
Boiling happens under surface while evaporation only happens at surface.
What does high pressure do to the boiling point?
Increase it.
Why does the line plateu in a freezing/melting graph
The state is changing.
When is the substance always “Aq”
If it is water or acid
State of KNO3?
Solid
State of H2SO4?
AQ
State of NANO3?
Aq
State of CaSO4?
S
State of PB(NO3)2
Aq
State of NaCl
S
Why does steam cause more burns than water?
Steam condenses on skin, releasing energy.
Why does some solid float on water?
They are less dense.
