Chapter 10 Vocab Quiz Flashcards
Arc
A part of a circle (the circumference)
Common tangent
A line, ray, or segment that is tangent to two circles in the same plane
Minor arc
An arc with a measure less than 180
Center
a point equidistant from all points in a circle
Congruent circles
circles that are equal in terms of radius, diameter, circumference and surface area
Pi
An irrational number equal to the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of a circle
Central angle
An angle whose vertex is at the center of a circle and whose sides are radii (radius plural)
Diameter
A chord that passes through the circle’s center
Point of tangency
The exact point in which a tangent line or segment intersects a circle
Chord
A line segment with both endpoints on the circle
Exterior segment
A segment that lies in the exterior of the circle
Radius
A segment with endpoints that are at the center and on the circle
Chord segment
A line segment whose two endpoints are located on the circumference of the same circle, forming a chord
Inscribed
A figure drawn inside another figure
Secant
A line that intersects a circle in exactly two points
Circle
a shape that consists of all points in a plane that are equidistant from the center
Inscribed angle
An angle whose vertex is on a circle and whose sides contain chords of the circle
Secant segment
A segment of a secant line that has exactly one endpoint on the circle
circumference
The distance around a circle
Intercepted arc
Arc formed by the endpoints of those lines
Semicircle
An arc that measures exactly 180
Circumscribed
A figure whose sides are tangent the circle (a figure in a circle)
Major arc
An arc with a measure greater than 180
Tangent
A line or segment that intersects a circle in exactly one point
