Chapter 10 Comparing Two Means Flashcards
1
Q
Dependent t-test (1)
A
- Paired-samples t-test
2
Q
Dummy Variables (3)
A
- A way of recoding a categorial variables with more than two categories
- Into a series of variables all of which are dichotomous
- And can take on values of only 0 or 1.
3
Q
Grand Mean (1)
A
- The mean of an entire set of observations
4
Q
Independent t-test (2)
A
- A test using the t-statistic
2. That establishes whether two means collected from independent samples differ significantly
5
Q
Paired-samples t-test (2)
A
- A test using the t-statistic
2. That establishes whether two means collected from the same sample differ significantly
6
Q
Standard Error of Differences (7)
A
- If we were to take several pairs of samples from a population
- and calculated their means,
- then we could also calculate the difference between their means.
- If we plotted these differences between sample means as a frequency distribution,
- we would have the sampling distribution of differences.
- The standard deviation of this sampling distribution is the standard error of differences.
- As such it is a measure of the variability of differences between sample means.
7
Q
Variance Sum Law (2)
A
- States that the variance of a difference between two independent variables
- is equal to the sum of their variances
