Chapter 10 Flashcards
all the living things and nonliving things in a given area
ecosystem
The nonliving pats of an ecosystem are
abiotic factor
Living things in an ecosystem
biotic factors
is the place within an ecosystem that produces food water shelter and other biotic and abiotic factors an organisms need to survive
habitat
is all the organisms of the same spieces that live in the same area at the same area at the same time
population
All the population living in the same area at the same time
community
is the size of a population compared to the amount of space avaible
population Density
is the way a spieces interacts with abiotic and biotic factors tp obtain food find shelter and fulfil other needs
niche
desribes the demand for resources such as food water and shelter in short supply in a community
competiton
occurs when a population becomes so large that it causes damage to the enviorment
Overpopulation
is the act of one organisms , a predator , feeding on another organisms prey
Predation
is a close long- term relationship between two spieces that usually involves exchange of food or energy
Symbiosis
A symbiotic relation in which both organisms benefit
mutualism
a symbiotic relationship in which one organsims
benefits but the other niether benefits nor is harmed
commenalism
a symbiotic relationhip in which one organism benefits while the other one is harmed
Parasitism
are organism that use an outside energy source such as the sun and produce thier own food
producers
Are organisms that cannot make thier own food
Consumers
A model that shows how energy flows in an ecosystem through feeding relationships
food chain
is a model of energy transfer that can show how the food chains in a communtiy are interconnected
Food web
