What is the Rationale?

A

The 17 SDGS are are an urgent call for action by all 193 countries; developed and developing; in a global partnership.

They recognise that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve:
- Health and education
- Reduce inequality
- Spur economic growth
While tackling climate change and work to preserve our oceans and forests.

What are key features of SDG 3: Good health and wellbeing?

A
  • Reduce maternal mortality
  • End preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5
  • End the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria… water-borne diseases.
  • Reduce by one-third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment
  • Strengthen the prevention and treatment of substance abuse including narcotic drug abuse and harmful use of alcohol
  • Substantially reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air, water and soil pollution and contamination.
