What is the Rationale?
The 17 SDGS are are an urgent call for action by all 193 countries; developed and developing; in a global partnership.
They recognise that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve:
- Health and education
- Reduce inequality
- Spur economic growth
While tackling climate change and work to preserve our oceans and forests.
What are the objectives?
The SDG agenda is a plan for action, a universal call to achieve the objectives to:
- End extreme poverty
- Fight inequality and injustice
- Address climate change
Overall aim?
To build a more prosperous and more equal, and more secure world by the year 2030.
What are key features of SDG 3: Good health and wellbeing?
- Reduce maternal mortality
- End preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5
- End the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria… water-borne diseases.
- Reduce by one-third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment
- Strengthen the prevention and treatment of substance abuse including narcotic drug abuse and harmful use of alcohol
- Substantially reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air, water and soil pollution and contamination.
What is the definition of SDG 3: Good health and wellbeing?
Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages.
What is the definition of SDG 1: No Poverty?
End poverty in all its forms including extreme poverty, over the next 15 years.
What is the definition of SDG 2: Zero Hunger
End hunger and all forms of malnutrition and to achieve sustainable food production by 2030.
What is the definition of SDG 4: Quality Education?
Ensure that all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education.
What is the definition of SDG 5: Gender Equality?
Ensuring that women have better access to paid employment, sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights, and real decision-making power, ensuring that development is equitable and sustainable.
What is the definition of SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation?
Ensure universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all.
What is the definition of SDG 13: Climate Action?
Combating climate change and its impacts, build resilience in responding to climate-related hazards and natural disasters.
