Chapter 10 Flashcards
1
Q
How does DNA differ from RNA?
A
DNA contains thymine, deoxyribose sugar, is double stranded, and has H at 2’ carbon
RNA contains uracil, is single stranded, and has an OH at 2’ carbon
2
Q
what different types of chemical bonds are found in DNA and where are they found?
A
covalent bonds: sugar/nucleotide/phosphate
hydrogen bond: nitrogenous bases
3
Q
In electrophoresis DNA molecules migrate towards the positive (+) pole of the current, what aspect of its structure causes this?
A
strong negative charge on the phosphate group
4
Q
If a double stranded DNA molecule is 15% thymine what are the other percentages?
A
15% T = 15% A
35% C = 35% G
A + T + C + G = 100%
