Aphthous ulcers
Painful ulcers appearing in the oral cavity as a circular lesion with a yellow center and a red outline or halo; sometimes referred to as a canker sore
Abscess
A collection of pus in a localized area
Basal cell carcinoma
Cancerous lesion that doesn’t metastasize; most commonly found on areas of the skin that been exposed to the sun. Occurs more often in individual with fair skin tones
Candida albicans
An oral yeast infection presenting as a thick, white covering on oral mucosa; also called moniliasis
Carcinoma
Cancerous lesion of the epithelium (tissues that line the mouth) that spreads into bone and connective tissues
Exudate
Cellular debris from an infection, the drainage of pus
Heretic whitlow
Painful crusting ulcerations on the finger or hands resulting from exposure to the herpes virus
Hyperplasia
Excess folds of tissue that result from an ill fitting denture
Kaposi’s sarcoma
Malignant bluish purple vascular tumor ; an opportunistic neoplasm that may occur in people with HIV infection
Leukoplakia
Usually a precipitating factor for cancer; appears as white leathery patch that cannot be identified as any other white lesion
Obturator
Constructed prosthetic device designed to close a congenital or acquired opening in the palate
Sarcoma
Malignant neoplasm beginning in supportive and connective tissue such as bones
Squamous cell carcinoma
Malignant lesion that metastasizes(travels) into surrounding tissues or into the lymph nodes of the body
Tori
Oral maxillary, mandibular, or palatal bone growths projecting outward from the surface
