What is the “mandate theory of elections”
The idea that the winning candidate has a mandate from the people to carry out his or her platforms and politics

American institution, crated by the Constitution, providing for the selection of the president by electors chosen by the state parties
Why is the voter turnout is lower in the U.S than in most other counties
In America, if you vote or not is a decision that the individual makes.We ask people to vote way more often than other countries. Also, choices don’t depend on more or less income and it has lacked a socialist party
Political efficacy
belief that one’s political participation really matters- that one’s vote can actually make a difference

belief that in order to support democratic government, a citizen should always vote

theory of voting in which voters essentially ask this simple question: What have you done for me lately?

Functions that elections provide
Institutionalize political activity so there are no riots or fights
Provide regular access to political power so leaders can be replaces instead of overthrown
Elections are accepted as a method of political leaders, giving us a choice

process permitted in some states whereby voters may put proposed changes in the state constitution to a vote if sufficient signatures are obtained on petitions calling for such a referendum
