Viet Cong; the enemy
DMZ

the assassination of an officer by his own troops, usually by a grenade
Freedom bird
The plane that took soldiers from Vietnam back to the world.
Hootch
A hut or simple dwelling, either military or civilian.
LZ
A landing zone under enemy fire.
R&R
Rest and recreation. A 3-7 day vacation from the war for a soldier.
Search and destroy
an operation in which Americans searched an area and destroyed anything in which the enemy might find useful.
Vietcong
the communist led forces fighting the south Vietnamese government.
