Altruism
one of seven core values
unselfish concern for the welfare of others
eg. commitment, caring, understanding
Dignity
one of seven core values
valuing the inherent worth and uniqueness of each person
eg. empathy, respect for self & others
Truth
one of seven core values
be faithful to facts and reality
eg.being accountable, honest, authentic in our attitudes
Prudence
one of seven core values
ability to govern and discipline oneself through the use of reason
or respond on the basis of intelligent reflection and rational thought
eg. judiciousness, discretion, vigilance
occupations
various kinds of life activities in which individuals, groups, or populations engage
Client factors
values, beliefs, spirituality, body functions, and body structures that reside within the person
Performance skill
observable elements of action that have an implicit functional purpose
ie. motor skills, process skills, social interaction skills
Performance patterns
habits, routines, roles, and rituals used by the person in the process of engaging in occupations or activities
note: can enhance or hinder occupational performance
context & environment
a variety of interrelated conditions that are within and surrounding the person.
- contexts can be cultural, personal, temporal, and virtual
- Environments are the physical and social conditions that surround the person
Philosophical Assumptions
- guide OTs in providing client-centered therapy that meets the needs of the client and society
- express our basic beliefs(and core values) about client and the context in which client functions

E: all individuals have same rights and opportunities. ie. Fairness, impartiality
F:Exercise choice and independence
J: upholding moral and legal principles ie. fairness
personalized medicine
along with philosophical assumptions, tailoring of medical treatments to the individual characteristics of each patient with a focus on the individual as the source of medical data and as the driver of health care
person-first language
person identified first and the disease used as secondary descriptor
eg. the fourth grade boy, who is a good speller, loves baseball and has cerebral palsy
evidence-based practice
to practice health care based on evidence of the effectiveness of each treatment approach
