Chapter 1 Vocab Flashcards
What is Physiology?
The study of function of the body parts.
What is Anatomy?
The study of structure and form of organisms
What is Microscopic anatomy and name the two main divisions it has?
Microscopic anatomy examines structures that cannot be seen by the naked eye or unaided eye
The two divisions are Cytology and Histology
What are Cytology and histology?
Cytology is the study of the body cells and their internal structure
Histology is the study of tissues
What is Gross anatomy also called macroscopic anatomy?
Investigates the structure and relationship of the body parts that are visible to the naked eye.
What are the approaches to gross anatomy?
Systemic Regional Surface Comparative Embryology
What is systemic anatomy and regional anatomy?
Systemic anatomy studies the anatomy of each functional body system as the most commonly used
Regional anatomy examines all of the structures in the exact region of the body as a complete unit.
What is surface anatomy , comparative anatomy ,and embryology?
Surface focuses on both superficial anatomic markings and the internal body structures that relate the skin covering them
Comparative examines similarities and the differences in the anatomy of different species
Embryology is the discipline concerned with development changes occurring from conception to birth
