What is Feudalism?
The system of political organization during the Middle Ages in which the lord owned the land and all others served him.
What is a Hierarchy?
A social system in which status is ranked, and power is concentrated in the higher ranks.
What is Allegiance?
Loyalty.
What are Manors?
Pieces of land, sometimes called fiefs.
Who are Freemen?
Peasants who rented land or worked for pay.
Who are Serfs?
Peasants who worked the land for the lord and, were not allowed to leave the manor without the lord’s permission.
What is a Monastery?
Buildings and Lands in which monks lived and carried out their religious duties.
Who are Journeymen?
A person who has learned a trade and joined a guild.
What are Sumptuary Laws?
Laws that controlled consumption or how people spent their money.
What is a Tithe?
A portion of crops or percentage of earnings paid to the Church.
What is the Bubonic Plague?
Bubonic plague is an infection spread mostly to humans by infected fleas that travel on rodents. Called the Black Death, it killed millions of Europeans during the Middle Ages.
What is a Rural Area?
A Rural Area is in the countryside, away from towns and cities.
What is an Urban Area?
Urban Areas are cities, towns, and suburbs.
What are Guilds?
A guild is an association of artisans and merchants who oversee the practice of their craft/trade in a particular area.
Identify the 7 elements of worldview and how each of them would influence someone’s worldview.
- Time - the decade, era or time period someone lives influences how they see the world around them
- Geography - where a person lives, north, south, European, Asian, North American, all influence how they see themselves and how they see the world
- Economy - your economic standing influences your experiences, and your decisions when it comes to buying or selling goods.
- Society - the type of government, how diverse your society is, your history, and who has the power and makes the decisions all influences how you see the world
- Beliefs - your beliefs in ideas, ideologies, or religions
- Values - what you hold dear, or is important to you
- Knowledge - what you know about the world, what questions you ask, what information is available to you
