Chapter 1 Test Flashcards
Matter
How much stuff something is made up of (everything has matter!)
Mass
A measure of the amount of matter in an object
Always constant
Measured with a balance
Units- kg, g, mg
Physical property
A property used to characterize physical objects
-Solubility
Physical change
When the appearance of an object changes
Chemical Change
When an object reacts to a chemical
- color change
- gas is produced
- heat released
- state of matter change
- light?
Density Equation
D=mass over volume
Density
How tightly packed molecules are in something
Thermal Conductor
Something that transfers heat
Ex. Water boiling
Water Displacement
How to find the volume of an oddly shaped object
When you fill up a graduated cylinder with water and then you place an object in it and how much the water risen subtracted by the original amount of water in the graduated cylinder is the volume.
Weight
-A measure of the gravitational force of an object
-Newtons
WEIGHT CHANGES MASS DOES NOT
Volume
Solid- cm3
Liquid-ml
Gas- How much the container says
Density- (Solid) g/cm3, (Liquid) g/ml
Gravity (extra)
the attraction between objects
Inertia
When an object doesn’t move until something pushes it
