Chapter 1 Study Guide Flashcards
What is Anatomy
The science of body structure and the relationship among them
What is Physiology
The science of body functions (how the body works)
What is the Chemical level?
The level includes atoms and molecules (2 or more atoms joined together)
What is the Cellular Level?
The Level is comprised of cells which are made of molecules and are the smallest unit of life
What is the Tissue Level?
The Level is comprised of tissues which are groups of cells that work together to perform a specific function
What is Epthelial Tissue?
Tissue that covers body surfaces, lines hollow organs and cavities and forms glands.
What is Connective tissue?
The tissue that connects supports and protects the body’s organs while distributing blood vessels to other tissues
What is Muscular Tissue?
Tissue that contracts to make the body move and generates heat. The primary component of the muscular system.
What is Nervous Tissue?
Tissue that carries information from one part of the body to another through the use of NERVE IMPULSES
What is the organ level?
The level is different types of tissues joined together. Organs are structures that are composed of two or more different types of tissues; usually have specific functions and recognizable shapes
What is the system level?
The level consists of related organs with a common function.
What is the Organism Level?
The level is any LIVING individual. All parts of the body working together
How many body systems are there?
There are 11
What are the components of the Integumentary system?
Skin, Hair, Nails, and Sweat/Oil Glands
What is the function of the Integumentary System?
Protects, regulates body temperature, eliminates waste, makes Vitamin D, detects sensations, stores fat and provides information
