Rhythm
Combination of long and short sounds
Sound
The stimulation of the auditory nerves by vibration carried in the air
Timbre
The quality of sound that distinguishes one musical instrument from another.

Vibration of sound
Vibration is crucial in making sound because it affects the quality of the sound.
For example: a triangle sounds better with the string attached compared to just banging the metal part.
Sound category
- Environmental sound: nature and human made
example for nature:raindrops, wind, birds chirping and waves.
Example for human made: car honking, construction (banging)
- Body sound: body parts and mouth and voice. Example: clapping, snapping, whistling
- Instrumental sound: objects and musical instruments.
Example: pots and pans, drum and piano
Percussion’s
Banging percussions: drum, rhythm sticks, Xylophone, cymbals, piano
Shake percussions: maracas, tambourine, bells
Scrape/rub percussion: guiro, sand block, Cabasa
other percussions:
castanets, thunder tube, quiro, glockenspiel and ocean drum
String instruments
Pluck and stroke: guitar, ukulele, piano
Requires a bow: violin, viola, cello, bass
Wind instruments
How to play: blow
Woodwind instrument: Piccolo, flute, Oboe, clarinet, saxophone
Brass wind instrument: Trumpet, Tuba, French horn
Keyboard instruments
