Chapter 1- Physical Change Flashcards
Chemical Property
A characteristic that describes the ability or inability of substance to combine with
Physical property
A characteristic of a substance that can be observed or measured without having to change the identity of a substance
Chemical change
The change of one or more substances into other steps which is the changes are usually permanent or difficult to reverse
Physical change
Any change in size shape or state of matter in which the identity of the substance remains the same;in many cases can be reversed
Lot of conservation of mass
The total mass before a chemical reaction is the same as the total mass after a chemical reaction
Chemical equation
A description of a chemical reaction using words or symbols
Subscript numbers
The number in a chemical formula that indicates how many atoms of an element are in a compound
Coefficient numbers
A number that indicates how many molecules are in a compound
Reactants
The starting molecules in a chemical reaction
Diatomic molecule
A molecule that contains two atoms of the same element
Chemical reaction
The atoms to form a product the most common is heat
cold light
Light and energy produced by a chemical reaction that doesn’t contain heat
Law of conservation of energy
Energy can be neither created or destroyed by chemical reaction but can change form
Exothermic reaction’s
Chemical reactions release energy the reactants have more energy than the products
Endothermic reaction’s
Chemical reaction observe energy products have more energy than the reaction
